Great food, amazing prices, and friendliest staff in town!

An Augusta tradition. Everyone should visit here and eat from their bounty. Don't miss the Sunshine Tea!

Not At all impressive. Maybe once great in its hayday but not worth a second visit. Staff was cold, the food was not worth the money spent and the lighting is horrible.

This is going to come across as rude and it probably will be. So me and some coworkers went here for lunch and this place left us with a memory that we shall not soon forget. As I walked through the front door, I did a double-take to see if I had missed a closed sign posted on the door, but to the surprise of our entire group, they were open an operating. The air smelled of twenty years of accumulated dust, the lighting was dim, but not like mood lighting, nooo... this was an atmoshpere that could only be achieved by pure neglect. The flourescent light covers had decayed to a dingy greenish yellow that caused the few functioning bulbs to emit a light that gave everything a urine colored glow. The shelves behind the front counter were small and open to the musty air with a few loaves of bread placed on them. The place looked like an abandoned point of interest from the Fallout series of games for those familiar. There was ambient music from a forgotten time playing, slightly too quietly to make out exactly what it was. Awkward silence filled the empty air. Two ladies at the counter took our orders. I got a pastrami sandwich and two of my coworkers ordered soup. We patiently seated ourselves at the table, making an awful screeching sound as the cast iron chairs drug across the tile floor. We sat in the awkward silence, staring across the table from one another. We are normally a pretty lively group, but there was a heavy unsettling feeling in the air that silenced any conversation whenever we attempted to speak. The ladies behind the counter gossiped about things, oblivious to our presence in the dim yellow room. Our attention wandered to the few artifacts we could make out in the darkness. Some article posted from a local paper claiming the restaurant was the best something from 1995 to 2005 or something was displayed like a trophy from the golden age of the mausoleum's existence. A coworker snickered as he pointed out the health score on the wall, which was an A but was more than two years old. Our food finally arrive and we ate in silence. It was on par with anything you would expect out of a deli. My sandwich consisted of bread and meat. The soup was soup, nothing noteworthy. We sat and waited for about 15 minutes wondering in silence if they come out to bring us the bill, but we finally gave in and headed for the counter. The cash register was little more than a conversation piece. One of the two ladies reached under the counter and pulled out one of those credit card readers with the loud paper slip printers and started hammering away with numbers that in no way aligned with our orders. They asked each of us what we had and two people with identical orders payed over 3.00 difference, one guy ordered more, but payed less than either of those two, and I think mine was roughly what I expected it to be. I saw raised eyebrows, but at this point, no one was interested in spending any more time in there so we paid our bill and departed. It was an odd experience that we wont likely repeat until we are ready to expose a set of new-hires to the adventure sometime in the future. Thanks for all of the strange stories Sunshine Bakery.

Their Josephines are delicious and the staff is very friendly.
